The Religion of Hatred

It seems the lastest anti-Obama rant is coming directly from the Bible - Psalm 109:8, "May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership." Sounds innocuous enough when taken out of context, but the next verse clarifies the intention. "May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow."

Not so innocuous anymore.

Somehow, I don't think God intended His word to be used in this way. The far right evangelical conservatives who came up with this gem claim to be "pro-life", yet the use of this verse is clearly a gimmick to recruit "Christian" warriors willing to take back a country they believe they have lost. All it takes is one nutcase (anyone remember Timothy McVeigh?) to create complete chaos. Is that what they really want? What, exactly, do they believe their reward will be in heaven?

Boggles the mind, doesn't it?

And so it was in the beginning...

How do you start a blog? What do you blog about? What if people don't read it? What if people DO read it?

The idea behind blogging is that you have a forum in which to express your thoughts, but our brains are typically so full of information it's difficult to know what warrants airing and what doesn't. I've seen blogs dedicated to a specific topic and others to a specific topic within a topic. I've also seen the more "free-form" blogs, where the author is basically keeping a diary for the public to read. If your topic becomes too narrow, you risk running out of things to say. Keep it too broad and you may end up saying things you would have preferred keeping private.

So, I guess my plan of attack is find a happy medium - blog about things currently on my mind without getting too personal or mired in details. You're welcome to join the ride. If you happen to agree with some of my ideas, great. If you don't, great. I respect your opinion so all I ask is that you respect mine.
